First ever tournament in Yiwu

First ever tournament in Yiwu

A new milestone in China Rugby, the first rugby match held in Yiwu and the first All Zhejiang Rugby Games. We faced off against local buddies and ‘real men’, Yiwu Mustangs rugby club, as well as the brand new Ningbo Wolves, on a lovely, sunny winter’s day. Although short of a full squad, all the boys who made the trip put their heart into once again donning the Quin’s jersey. The first game against the Wolves saw us facing an equally young, student based team with lot’s of speed to show off. Intense action saw both teams edging to each other’s try lines however some last minute tackles saved the scoreline. Eventually the Wolves broke the deadlock with a fast counterattack after the halftime break, however the Quins answered back in kind with a strong break by Moses Nani. Final Score 5-5.
The second game against the Mustangs was meant to be easy, as their team is made up of many beginners to the game. However Yiwu came out fighting, and with some cheeky lineout work, had their President and previous Harlequin, Adrien, running in their first try. Not ones to sit back, Hangzhou brought the fight back to the game, with our speed and experience putting points on the board. Tries from Obert Chitokwindo and Benjamin Lee saw Hangzhou put the game to bed. Final Score 37-5.
